Depicted as a decorated five-story building along the Grand Canal of Venice, the Palazzo Venier dei Leoni was designed by Lorenzo Boschetti. Only one floor of the building was never completed.

 

In 1948, Peggy Guggenheim, niece of Solomon, wealthy American industrialist and art collector, bought the building to transfer here her new home and her works of art. In 1949 Peggy Guggenheim opens the doors of her house to the public with an exhibition of sculptures in the garden. Today, the Guggenheim Museum in Venice is one of the most important museums of modern art in Europe.

 

Since 1985 all the rooms on the first floor of the Guggenheim Museum in Venice host the greatest masterpieces of twentieth-century artists like Picasso, Duchamp, de Chirico, Kandinsky, Dali to name a few.
