SAINT MARK SQUARE

Saint Mark Square in Venice is the most important square in Venice and is the center of the city. Surrounded by stately buildings and wet from the lagoon, the Saint Mark Square in Venice was built in the ninth century as a simple vegetable garden surrounded by trees. Over the years it was extended by the will of the Doges, and each year, as now, was the scene of the most important cultural events such as the famous Venice Carnival.

The St. Mark’s Basilica in Venice stands to dominate the imposing Piazza di San Marco. Commissioned in 1701 by Doge Domenico Contarini, the St. Mark’s Basilica was built in Venetian-Byzantine style: five domes rest on four main times that discharge their weight on Four-pillars. The St. Mark’s Basilica has a separate bell tower, which in its nearly 100 meters high, is one of the most recognizable symbols of the city. The tower was rebuilt in 1912, ten years after its collapse.

Among the things to see in Venice is certainly the Saint Mark square and you can not get confused because it is the only place that is not called the field.
